Varicose & Spider Vein Therapy

European Microphlebectomy

Microphlebectomy | Columbia MO | Springfield MOMicrophlebectomy is a procedure that was developed by a Swiss Dermatologist to remove large ropy surface varicose veins. It is often used in conjunction with Endovenous Laser or Radiofrequency. This procedure involves removing the varicose vein through tiny puncture sites usually no larger than 1-2 millimeters in diameter. This is not considered vein stripping. There are no sutures (stitches) required and the cosmetic results are excellent.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

Ultrasound guided sclerotherapy is another important technique in the treatment of venous insufficiency. It involves treating veins that are too small to close with laser or radiofrequency. These refluxing, smaller veins are located by ultrasound and, when visualized, they are injected with a medicine such as Sotradecol® or Polidocanol® to seal them shut.

Visual Sclerotherapy (Cosmetic Sclerotherapy)

Visual Sclerotherapy (Cosmetic Sclerotherapy | Microphlebectomy | Columbia MO | Springfield MOThe "gold standard" treatment for the spider veins is sclerotherapy. This is considered a cosmetic procedure and is typically not covered by insurance or medicare. Dr. Bailey uses one of two FDA approved solutions to perform cosmetic sclerotherapy. (Sotradecol®, Polydocanol®) These solutions are much safer and have a better side effect profile that the old hypertonic saline solution. The solution is injected into the spider vein with a small micro needle causing the vein to seal shut. The vein eventually disappears with time.

Laser Spider Veins Treatment

Although sclerotherapy continues to provide the best cosmetic results in the treatment of spider veins of the legs, occasionally a surface laser can be a helpful adjunct. For facial spider veins, laser and intense pulsed light are the true gold standard modalities for treatment. The Bailey Cosmetic Surgery & Vein Centre` has an extensive array of lasers and light sources specifically for the treatment of these spider veins. They include: the Iridex 532KTP laser the Iridex 940 Diode laser, Sciton ND YAG 1064 laser and the Palomar Intense Pulsed Light system.
