BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® is now the most commonly performed non-surgical cosmetic procedure in the United States.  It is a medication that is used to cause relaxation of specific wrinkle causing muscles.  It was originally made popular by Canadian physicians, Jean and Allistair Carruthers.  It can be used to treat the frown lines between the eyes, crow’s feet and forehead lines without scars or surgery.  Once the muscles have been treated they cannot contract and frown lines begin to disappear.  The treatments take only 5 – 10 minutes and the results are seen within 3 – 5 days.  After 3 – 5 months, the treatment begins to wear off and additional treatments may be necessary.  For patients who have received repeated treatments, less BOTOX® may be needed in the future because the facial muscles have retrained themselves to frown less vigorously.

Occasionally, patients will experience a small amount of temporary bruising with the procedure.  There are no reports of permanent side effects or injury related to BOTOX®.  Before BOTOX®: avoid aspirin, non steroidal anti-inflammatory such as Motrin or Aleve, or herbal medicines such as Ginko and oral vitamin E for two weeks before and after treatment.

Restylane®

What is Restylane®?
Restylane® is a gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume to the depths of wrinkles and folds.  It is also used to plump up lips.  Restylane® is a hyaluronic acid which is found naturally in our bodies.  The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is non-animal, biodegradable and fully biocompatible with our own body’s hyaluronic acid.  Restylane® works by adding volume to specific areas of the aging face.

How is a treatment performed?
Restylane® is injected into the skin through a very fine needle.  Prior to the injection you will be given local anesthesia for maximal comfort.  Before Restylane®: avoid aspirin, non steroidal anti-inflammatory such as Motrin or Aleve, or herbal medicines such as Ginko and oral vitamin E for two weeks before and after treatment.

How long does the treatment session take?
Treatment with Restylane® requires no pre-testing unlike other fillers.  Generally the treatment takes 30 minutes.  Normal activity may be resumed immediately. The results last 6 to 10 months.

When will I see the results?
You will see the results immediately.

Radiowave Mole Removal
Instead of using a sharp scalpel or liquid nitrogen to remove moles we prefer radiowave technology.  This ultra high frequency radiowave technology results in rapid healing and minimal discomfort.  In addition, there is less bleeding and scarring with this approach.  The procedure lasts no more than 2 – 3 minutes.

MicroLaser Peel (MLP) Skin Resurfacing

Smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin can be yours, no matter your age or skin type, with MicroLaser Peel Skin Resurfacing.  You can see significant changes in skin texture and tightness after as little as one session.

MicroLaser Peel Skin Resurfacing is a minimal to full epidermal laser peel that precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin.  The procedure is individually tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected:  wrinkles, scars, enlarged pores, or keratoses (precancerous lesions).

Most patients will feel a bit sunburned immediately after treatment, though this clears up in a day or two.

One treatment might last for 6 to 12 months; additional treatments may be performed if needed.  Three to four sessions are typical.  Dr. Bailey can help determine what is best for you.

Laser Hair Reduction

What is Laser Hair Reduction?
Laser hair reduction is a safe, fast and effective alternative to waxing, shaving and electrolysis for unwanted hair.  Lasers work by emitting a specific wavelength of light that passes through the skin and is absorbed by the target hair follicle. This results in damage to the hair follicle with the subsequent reduction of hair growth.

Who can be treated?
All patients and all areas of the body may be treated including:

  • Tanned patients
  • Patients of all skin colors (skin types I-VI)

Dr. Bailey has three different laser and light systems for hair removal.  They include the Sciton 1064 YAG laser, the Lumenis Lite Sheer Laser, and the Sciton Broad Band Light device.  These three FDA approved devices work in a complementary fashion and allow Dr. Bailey to successfully and safely treat all skin colors (skin types I – VI)

How many treatments will I need?
You may need to be treated 5 – 8 times at roughly 6 week intervals.  This is because there are three phases of hair growth (anagen, catagen and telogen).  Only hair follicles in the active growth phase, (ie. anagen),are affected by the laser.  Within 6 weeks the remaining hair follicles transition from the resting phase to the active phase so that they are ready for the next treatment.

How long does it take to recover after laser hair removal?
Usually your skin will be slightly red and swollen for approximately 48 hours after the procedure.

Is the treatment permanent?
Each laser hair reduction session will on average result in 20% hair loss.  In most cases a number of treatments will be necessary.  The number of treatments depends on the individual patients response to treatment and the amount of hair to be removed.  Any hair that remains will be thinner and lighter in color.
